Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Review Article Policy

West African Journal of Allied Health Sciences (WAJAHS)

1. Overview

The West African Journal of Allied Health Sciences (WAJAHS) welcomes high-quality Review Articles that provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and critical analysis of topics relevant to the field of Allied Health Sciences. These articles should summarize the current state of knowledge, identify gaps, and suggest directions for future research or practice.

2. Scope

Review articles may focus on, but are not limited to:

  • Public and Community Health
  • Nursing and Midwifery
  • Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation
  • Radiography and Imaging
  • Health Education and Promotion
  • Pharmacology and Drug Safety
  • Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Health Policy and Management

Types accepted include:

  • Narrative Reviews
  • Systematic Reviews
  • Scoping Reviews
  • Meta-Analyses

3. General Guidelines

  • Review articles must be original and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Manuscripts should follow the journal’s formatting requirements.
  • Systematic reviews should be registered on platforms like PROSPERO where applicable.

4. Manuscript Structure

A standard review article should include:

  • Title Page: Title, Author(s), Affiliation(s), Contact
  • Abstract: 200–300 words (structured)
  • Keywords: 3–6
  • Introduction
  • Methods (for systematic/scoping reviews)
  • Main Body: Synthesized and critical review
  • Discussion and Conclusion
  • References: APA 7th Edition style

5. Word Count

  • Narrative Reviews: 3,000–5,000 words
  • Systematic Reviews: Up to 6,000 words
  • Meta-Analyses: Up to 7,000 words

6. Peer Review and Acceptance

All review articles undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent experts. Acceptance is based on originality, rigor, synthesis depth, and relevance.

7. Ethical Considerations

  • Authors must declare conflicts of interest and funding sources.
  • Articles must comply with ethical publishing standards. Plagiarism and data manipulation are grounds for rejection.
